United Kingdom died at the hands of Scotland?

In early May the UK in parallel parliamentary elections held in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, and conducted a referendum on changing the electoral system. All it does is overshadowed by the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Small British girls fantasized that one day they become princesses, mothers complained that they have not, and fathers were proud to watch the pomp about the royal wedding as proof of British superiority. Although hardly anyone thought about that at moments of national pride, the United Kingdom, may cease to exist.

At the parliamentary elections in Scotland, claimed an absolute majority of Scottish National Party (SNP), which is already more than half a century, committed to leaving the UK. Alex Salmon, president of the SNP, immediately after the election, said he intends to call a referendum within four years. Meanwhile, Liberal Democrats (LD), Nick Clegg, the minority partner in the ruling coalition of the UK, have experienced heavy losses in local elections which were conducted in parallel. At the same time the referendum was rejected their proposal to change the electoral system, which may have serious consequences on the British political scene.

   Liberals broken spirit

A little more than a year, otherwise stable political system in Britain began to seriously wobble. Namely, due to dissatisfaction with the general situation in the country, voters were offered a big number of votes the Liberals Nick Clegg, the third party nominally in power. The United Kingdom found itself in a rather unusual situation in which no one party alone has the majority. The winners, in this case the Conservatives David Cameron, the first time since 1974. forced to create a coalition government.

Cameron was in exchange for support of the Liberals in parliament agreed to their request to hold a referendum on changing the electoral system. Specifically, in the UK is in effect a majority electoral system that favors the strongest party, so they are liberals as a small party in parliament and presented to the change are those most benefited.

The referendum was held, as promised, but the results did not bring a smile to your face leader of the Liberals. "Clegg looks like a man who stepped in dog shit, and it certainly can not be removed, " writes one of the commentators referring to the debacle that liberals are experienced in the referendum. Obviously, the dominant Conservative Party, carried out painful reforms, and relatively powerless Clegg bear. This development threatens the survival of the government, because liberals are humiliated in the fight for the main goal, actually no reason to stay in the coalition. Although Clegg does not want to admit it, Downing Street is threatening serious crisis.

ELIZABETH II - NEW AND (OR) OLD Queen of Scots

The same day, a little north, Scottish National Party has achieved historic success. They won an absolute majority in the Scottish Parliament and so paved the way for the referendum on leaving the UK. Alex Salmond, leader of the nationalists, has just announced it to do over the next four years. Before him is a long time, because the polls support secession is around 40 percent. To expect a vigorous resistance to London as the best prime minister confirmed a statement by David Cameron for the BBC in which he says will "lead the campaign in which I will try my best to maintain the United Kingdom together." Yet it is questionable how much will be paid to it, because Cameron potential crises at home in Downing Street, if it happens will surely not go to hand.

A lot of time left, and uncertainty about the developments, but it raises the question of the emerging countries in order to function. Salmond believes that finance should not be a problem, because according to official data for the last three years by pumping oil and gas from the North Sea earned 32 billion euros.

On the other hand, if it comes to splitting of Britain, Scots intend to remain part of the European Union and would gladly keep the British pound as the official currency. What is interesting is not prone to any regulation of the republic, but would apparently remained a monarchy. How the Scots have their own royal family, Queen Elizabeth II would probably rest their queen.

At this point is somewhat unclear what the Scots would get to leave the UK, but we do not doubt that Salmond and his vision completely referendum format, if it has not already made.

Actor Sean Connery was back in 2007. said he dreams of Scottish independence elections before he dies. Today his home is not far from the goal, but that would experience a dream come true, by all accounts, he should not die a year or more.
