Guns at Texas colleges

The proposed new law in the U.S. state of Texas permits to carry weapons in the campus.

Republicans in Texas Senate last week approved a measure that those who possess a permit for a firearm permit carrying concealed handguns in public universities, according to British newspaper The Guardian.

These measures, as part of the law of expenditure of public universities, met with strong resistance from institutions of higher education, including most of the deans of faculties. Twelve Democrats in the Senate, the body with 31 members, most of the joint forces tried to block the measure, but failed because a majority vote added to the law of expenditure in the form of amendments."The consequences of allowing an individual with a gun permit to carry guns on campus will create a dangerous situation and endanger the faculty, staff, students and guests of the University," it said in a statement the University in Arlington in March. Most law enforcement organizations also withdrew against those regulations by claiming that they could increase the violence.

Since those measures are approved in the Senate, must now go through and still the House of Representatives where it is already a similar bill on the table and will soon be ready to vote. Supporters believe that the passage in the Senate, the House of Representatives quickly react and push forward the bill to the Governor's office. They also argue that carrying weapons in schools to increase security. If more people are armed with good reasons, they say, is less likely to act violently. As an example he cites previous school shootings where criminals were at an advantage because students were helpless. Proponents of the bill referred to the issue of self-defense and the right to bear arms.

Opponents disagree, saying that more guns in schools to create the opportunity for even greater violence and mass confusion. Rector of the University of Texas System (University of Texas System), Francisco Cigarroa, wrote to politicians and Governor Rick Perry citing concerns that the proposed measures lead to more crime and suicide on university campuses. The hearings were dominated by supporters of the law that the statements were raped or assaulted at schools and the few people who survived the massacre at Virginia Tech University 2007th , when a gunman killed 32 people. Democratic Senator Judith Zaffirini, who studied at the University of Texas 1966th When a sniper Charles Whitman killed 12 people and wounding dozens of others, was withdrawn against the bill. It is believed to arise mass chaos if the police respond to a call and found the scene a few people with guns in their hands.
